Indulgence is not “magic,” its effect is not automatic. It is necessary for those who receive it to truly repent for their sins and be driven by the genuine desire to live a better life.

How to obtain the indulgence:

By confessing, receiving Holy Communion, praying according to the intentions of the Pope, and performing one of the following actions:

• Pilgrimage to a jubilee site within the Diocese or elsewhere (for example, to the four Major Basilicas in Rome), praying at that location.
• Visiting sick and/or elderly people at their homes, in hospitals, or in nursing homes, or visiting a prisoner.
• Abstaining, at least for one day, from all things that waste time unnecessarily and from excessive consumption.
• Donating money to the poor or to religious or social organizations, especially those that defend life.
